Snow Daze

Yep, it's -15 with the wind chill factor here in the mitten state. I am hold up with 2 of my lovely daughters and 3 of my wonderful grandchildren! Sigh! Right now we are baking a box carrot cake with pineapple and raisins added. Last week I took Shakespeare our mini-poodle, and Gizmo our cat (see photo) to the vet for check-ups. Total bill $557.82!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievable. There fore I need to get my eBay sales going again. As a person who shops for food at Aldis, and everything else at The Gospel Mission Store, Salvation Army, and Goodwill, the fee was baaaaad news. I haven't spent that on dental bills for last year. It is important to keep them healthy because I love them, but also with an 8 month old baby in the house it's imperative. I'll be posting eBay items pronto.
To further save cash, I looked up some home remedies for skin and hair. My long hair is 4 inches over due for highlights, which I am not going to get. Since I need to look more professional for Subbing, and possibly another part time job, I had to do something. Home remedy #1 consisted of a paste of baking soda and peroxide for my face and neck. First I washed with a buff puff and Dove soap, after rinsing well, I applied the paste. Wow!!!!! My skin feels so clean! It shrinks and cleans pores very well. Next, I brewed my own hair color. Since I also have gray hair coming in, I chose this recipe to help blend the three colors together. I boiled sage, rosemary, and some black coffee together. I let it cool and sit over night. Then I strained it, and filled the kitchen sink with a little water and poured in my magic concoction. Then I leaned over the sink and dunked my head in. Using a measuring cup, I ladled it over the back and sides of my hair. Finally, I slathered on Suave conditioner. Also, I have a curly bun hairpiece which I colored at the same time, same way.
My teeth are in sad shape needing to be whitened. I am a huge coffee drinker. I had my teeth professionally whitened by my dentist 5 years ago but my teeth became painfully sensitive. Personally I think teeth can really age a person, and cause a very unprofessional appearance. I am brushing them with the same baking soda peroxide mixture I used on my skin and it is working very nicely.
Internet suggestion: (Take some foil and fold it to form to your teeth. Take a little toothpaste and baking soda and mix together really well. Put some of the mixture into the foil and place on your teeth. Leave on for one hour everyday. Brush teeth normally afterwards. You will notice whiter teeth in just a few days.) I am going to try this next.
If any one has any great home remedies they would like to share I would sure appreciate it!
Thanks,
Cheri
